What is ASCN?

Arkadelphia Simple Church Network

Let’s take it one word at a time!

Arkadelphia:

  • Arkadelphia was likely formed by combining Ark- from the state’s name Arkansas and adelphia from the Greek meaning brotherhood.
  • It’s your home! Let’s face it; home is where the rump rests. Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you are a college student from across the country, Arkadoo is your home!  It may take a while for it to feel that way, but it helps to have friends that know their way around and will welcome you into the family. That’s ASCN!

Simple:

  • Easy to understand, deal with, use, etc.
  • Not elaborate or artificial.
  • Free of deceit or guile; sincere; unconditional.
  • Humble or lowly.
  • Whether it’s meeting in a house, dorm, coffee shop, park, or anywhere there are no programs, bureaucracy, or super structures involved in ASCN. (It’s real life…. J)

Church:

  • The word “church” is used in the bible to describe believers worldwide, believers in a particular city, and believers in a local gathering. The word “church” is translated from the Greek word, “ekklesia,” which simply means assembly, gathering or congregation
  • The Bible describes this “assembly” of believers as a body, with Jesus Christ as the head of the body.
  • Whenever this assembly gathers together, a church meeting is happening, whether for fellowship, the breaking of bread, the apostles’ teaching, or prayer. This can be any time, anywhere, and with any lowly ole’ believers. (Acts 2:42-47, Matthew 18:20)
  • In a church meeting, God desires for all believers to participate by using their spiritual gifts. All of our gifts are necessary for the well-being of the church! (1 Corinthians 14:26)
  • ASCN is a part of the church at large, the church of Arkadelphia, and holds weekly informal gatherings in and around the city to experience the depth of Jesus together. Because it really is all about Him!  (Colossians 1:15-20)

Network:

  • An extended group of people with similar interests or concerns who interact and remain in informal contact for mutual assistance and support.
  • ASCN’s goal is to link up all people doing or interested in doing simple church in our area.
  • We want to work together for Christ and His kingdom, encourage each other, reach the lost, and follow His lead!

Ask yourself…

Have you ever had an impromptu prayer, worship, or bible study session break out in your dorm or living room? Have you ever had a great time sharing a meal and discussing the Christian life with other believers? Do you continue to do so on some kind of semi-regular or weekly basis? If so, you are experiencing simple church!

…If not, would you like to?
