Sunday night meeting, the Sellers’ house

First, we ate a wonderful meal together that everyone contributed to as we caught up with each other’s lives. Becky and Brandon haven’t been able to be around for awhile, two people that we just met today in our neighborhood came, and one person who has never come before showed up as well. So we definitely needed some time to visit and get to know each other better.

After dinner we moved into the living room and Les explained to the new people that we have no pre-planned structure for our meetings and that everyone is encouraged to share a song, prayer, teaching, encouragement, etc… that is on their hearts as the Lord guides them. April shared that the Lord was teaching her to become more like a child in faith. Adam shared some scripture about Jesus as the good shepherd who gives abundant life to his sheep (which became the overarching theme of discussion for the night).

Bonnie suggested that we watch the “Tidal Wave” video made by house2house because it was a good introduction to the house church concept and movement in the U.S. We paused many times and had some very insightful conversations about what it means to be “the church”.

We then decided that we wanted to sing songs in praise to God. Becky opened this by teaching us the “I just want to be a sheep” song following the un-pre-planned theme for the evening. Some songs were guitar led, others a cappella with different people selecting the songs they wanted. We didn’t sing out of obligation (many times we don’t sing at our meetings) but a geniune desire at that moment to musically express our love for the Lord.

Throughout the night prayer requests would be given and prayed for immediately and openly and testimonies of previously answered prayers and even physical healing miracles were shared. It came out that Becky and Brandon were in a financial need and that Patsi was in desperate need of yard work. So, we decided to meet at her house for our Thursday night church meeting and do her yard work and she decided to give the money she would have spent on the yard work to Brandon and Becky. We also volunteered to make meals for them throughout the week.

Ya know, it’s funny. I’ve read about meetings like this before…

42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
